A Little TLC Goes A Long Way
A well known local Harlem man known as “Bronco Willie,” took it upon himself to care for four trees the city had planted outside a strip of apartment buildings. The trees were neglected and often became a place for cigarette buds and trash. Willie Rainey, 62, confronted those he saw using the new trees and planters inappropriately and soon after people began to leave the trees alone. Willie placed a bucket for cigarette buds and he planted seeds of California poppies, Zinnias and sunflowers. Now in an area the was once a hot spot for abandon carts there are sunflowers waist high and new colorful flowers and growth all around.
